'I went to the Willenhall cafe people can't stop talking about to find out what makes it so popular'
When people shout up about how good a place is for the food and the people behind it, you have to see if it's worth the hype.
As part of the National World Food and Drink month, we ran a poll to find out what the favourite places to eat were for people across the region.
When it came to the most popular café, there was a clear winner, one place that was the leader of the pack and deemed the best for the warm welcome it gives, the great food it provides and the sense of community it brings.
That place is Brunch at Blondies on Lucknow Road in Willenhall, with people answering the social media with praise for its great food, for the friendly and warm welcome from the staff and generally being a place that is worth visiting.

Almost sounds too good to be true, doesn't it? When you hear all these good sentiments, it makes you want to go there, try it out and see if the hype matches the actual event, so I took a trip down to the Precinct in Willenhall where the café is based to sample the wares and gauge the welcome.
Located on the corner of the Precinct, the café is not hard to spot with signs outside and a familiar smell of sizzling bacon and sausages emanating from the windows, which filled me with a warm feeling already.
Pass through the front door and you're met with a colourful counter, with the easy-on-the-eye blue and white logo of the café visible there as well as on the mugs that customers were enjoying a hot tea or coffee from.

You also get a warm welcome from the staff working at the time, with Kimberley Swan and manager Adam Slater both chatting with you like you'd be there before and making you feel welcome.
It's the little touches like that that draw you in, as does the variety of the menu on offer, all made with fresh and local ingredients and cooked to taste and preference.
There are three full English breakfasts on offer, with the smallest featuring one each of sausage, bacon and eggs and a portion of beans, tomatoes, toast or fried bread and your choice of tea or coffee for £6.
The medium offers two each of sausages and bacon, one egg and the other portions, as well as black pudding, mushrooms and a hash brown, for £8 and the large kicks it up a notch with more sausages, more bacon and more eggs for a big plate, but reasonable cost of £9.50.

However, if you're feeling peckish, brave or with a need to feel full for the next two days, Brunch at Blondies offer a challenge they devilishly entitled "The 666 Breakfast Challenge" which is worth £25, or free if you complete it in 26 minutes.
Nice idea in theory, but where the good planning falls down is the sheer scale and size of the challenge, with six of everything, plus big bowls of tomatoes, beans and mushrooms and a mountain of toast.
At one time, I'd have dived in head first and had a good go at demolishing it, but I'm not as brave these days, so stuck to a medium breakfast as a way of filling my gut, but not writing myself off for the rest of the day.
I ordered breakfast and took my seat in the dining area, full of blue colour and with Capital FM playing music I didn't have the first clue about (I'm 42, nearly 43, so modern music washes over me like 90s music escaped members of my family), but with comfy chairs and tables.

I took the time to look at the menu and see what other goodies are available on there, starting with an extensive, varied and detailed hot sandwiches/cobs menu.
Among the standard breakfast fodder, there were also other types of sandwich, from a sausage and egg muffin to hot pork and stuffing, eggs benedict and a fish finger sandwich (I love those, so at least one reason to come back).
There's also omelettes, paninis, cold sandwiches, a homely lunch menu full of comfort food items like cottage pie, cheese burgers, fish and chips and hunters chicken, and plenty of sides, plus hot and cold drinks and, above all, no meal costing more than £10, the 21 day matured steak with chips topping the list at £9.99.

That's for me to find out more in the future, but the present saw me receiving a large plate full of glistening, sizzling and outright delicious looking food and, for a medium breakfast, far more than I expected to get for £8.
That's mark in favour of Brunch at Blondies straightaway, as was the fact that the breakfast was a fantastic meal full of flavour, from the well-cooked bacon to the melt-in-the-mouth hash brown and wonderfully fatty black pudding.
It was complemented by eggs nice cooked, soft mushrooms and lots of beans, as well as fluffy toast which mopped up the beans and left me with a clear plate and a full stomach, as well as a better understanding of why this place is as popular as it is.

The staff are warm and welcoming, the food is top notch and the café has a cosy and intimate feeling which makes you feel welcome and warm. So, yes, it definitely lives up to the hype.
Get yourself down there, order from the extensive menu and enjoy a classy morning meal experience. You can thank me later.
