The powerful cover of Cyndi Lauper's 'True Colours' was released on Saturday with a video featurings photos of dozens of New Cross Hospital staff alongside vocals from the five local artists.

It was the brainchild of Ash Wilde, who launched the Voices for New Cross appeal on March 27 and has already raised more than £5,000.

Ash contacted local singer Kelly Ward and she arranged for a group of artists to cover 'True Colours', while Adam Trotman made the film.

As well as Kelly Ward, the video features Ryan Evans, Lenny Francesca, Jade Alexandra and Alex-Is and was viewed more than more than 40,000 times in less than 24 hours.

Ash, 28 and from Telford, said: "I run a page with a big following so I came up with the idea to do a song for New Cross Hospital and Kelly got the singers together.

"We started fundraising for the staff because we wanted to show our appreciation to the NHS heroes and what they're doing for the public in these hard times.

"We've now raised more than £5,000 across all of our fundraising platforms.

"We wanted all of the money to go to the staff as a bonus but the hospital said it will have to go to the trust and they will buy the staff nice things.

"So now we're giving most to New Cross and we will go to the supermarkets and get some care packages for staff with the rest.

"We want to give them something they'll appreciate."

Staff at New Cross Hospital

Ash has been sharing fun TikTok videos made by staff at New Cross on the Voices for New Cross page, along with dozens of selfies and group photos from the teams on the frontline.

"We've had that many staff members contact us on social media, we've had over 150 photos sent in.

"We want the single to be a proper hit that it deserves, we've reached out to a few producers, that's our dream."
