Coronavirus: Death toll rises and Government faces NHS testing criticism

Follow updates from today across the Black Country, Staffordshire and beyond as the UK death toll rises by 563 in 24 hours.

The UK death toll has increased to 2,352 after by far the largest single-day rise since the Covid-19 crisis began.

Meanwhile the Government is coming under increasing pressure over coronavirus tests as healthcare leaders warned there is “no immediate prospect” of mass NHS staff testing.

It comes as 13-year-old Ismail Mohamed Abdulwahab became the youngest victim of Covid-19 in England.

Locally, it's been revealed that West Midlands Police has taken action against just two people so far for flouting the coronavirus lockdown rules.

And in Walsall, a Muslim community leader has voiced fears that social gatherings are continuing to help the spread of the virus despite social distancing rules.
