Tettenhall Medical Practice is looking to close its Wood Road branch..

Tettenhall Medical Practice's Wood Road Surgery announced it could close earlier this year due to spiralling costs and difficulties in recruiting permanent medics.

The proposed closure would affect 4,000 people registered at the branch, with patients having to travel to the Lower Green practice.

And now a petition, signed by shops, businesses and residents in the area, is being submitted to the House of Commons by Wolverhampton South West MP Eleanor Smith.

It will then be passed to the Department for Health and Social Care for a full review.

Ms Smith said: “This large number of signatures just shows the strength of feeling there is for saving Wood Road Surgery.

"This GP practice serves a community of the elderly and young families.

"It is accessible by foot and on the route of three bus services. It needs to remain open and serve this community.

"The alternative proposed surgery at Lower Green is difficult to get to, especially if you do not have access to a car.

"It also has very limited car-parking which already frustrates the existing patient base there, as do congestion issues.”

The MP will also chair an open meeting to "Save Wood Road Surgery" on July 11 at Christ Church Tettenhall Wood.

Members from Wolverhampton Clinical Commissioning Group and the Wood Road surgery will attend at 7.30pm.

Ms Smith added: “Please come along to this meeting – the more support this campaign has the better the chance to keep the surgery open.

"It is very important to be present.

"It is your opportunity to show those behind this decision that you do not want this GP surgery to close and how important this issue is to you.

"The closure of Wood Rd will affect your neighbours, friends, family, and community.

"If you attend Lower Green Surgery it will affect you too – please tell everyone you know to attend the meeting.”
