Grants of up to £5,000 for improving green spaces in the Midlands

Green spaces are good for mental health, say organisers

Charities and community groups across the West Midlands are being invited to bid for grants of up to £5,000 to improve green spaces in the county.

The Community Matters fund, financed by the National Grid, is for schemes to boost biodiversity and improve access to green spaces.

Grants up to £5,000 are available to registered charities, while unregistered organisations can apply for up to £2,000.

The organisation said green spaces were recognised as beneficial health by reducing stress and anxiety.

Laura Bartle, National Grid’s head of environment and sustainability, said: “These spaces play a vital role in supporting biodiversity, strengthening climate resilience, improving health and wellbeing, and creating more vibrant and connected communities.”

She said organisers were particularly keen to hear about projects helping underserved or vulnerable groups to overcome barriers to enjoying open spaces.

Applications, which can be made through the website localgiving.org/community-matters-fund-green-spaces-2026, must be submitted by 5pm on June 26.
