Tributes from across Stafford for tragic teenager as fundraiser continues to build

Further tributes have been made to a teenager who died after being hit by a falling tree as a fundraiser in his honour continues to build.

There have been tributes and community support offered following the death of a teenager hit by a falling tree in a Stafford park.

Stafford Rangers Football Club and St Bertelin's Church have both reached out on social media to offer support and condolences to the community and the teenager’s family following the incident on Saturday at Holmcroft Park.

The football club said it wanted to extend thoughts and prayers to the family of the 15-year-old, as well as anyone affected by the tragedy.

The statement said: “Stafford Rangers FC would like to extend their sincere condolences following the heartbreaking news of the tragic death of a local 15-year-old boy in Stafford yesterday.

“Everyone at the club sends their thoughts and prayers to his family, friends, and all those affected at this incredibly difficult time.”

A message on St Bertelin’s Church’s Facebook page said the church would be open for anyone wanting to light a candle in remembrance, as well as to sign a book of remembrance.

The message said: “St Bertelin’s Church is open for anyone to come and light a candle, to remember the young man who died yesterday in our local park.

“We have a Book of Remembrance if you would like to sign that for his family.

“If you would like to leave flowers, (recognising that the Park is still closed) you can leave them by the bench at St Bertelin’s and, if you prefer, you can tie a ribbon onto the netting that I’ve had put onto one of the wooden crosses on the Eccleshall Road side of the church.

“Ribbons will be available or you can use your own.

“Prayers were said this morning for the young man, for his family, and for all who knew and who loved him.”

A GoFundMe page set up to raise funds for the teenager’s family has, to date, raised more than £11,600.
