Freshly elected Walsall Reform UK councillor arrested

Councillor Carl Creaney, ward member for New Invention, was arrested at his home.

A newly elected Reform UK councillor in Walsall has been arrested by West Midlands Police.

Councillor Carl Creaney, ward member for New Invention, was arrested at his home on June 23, 2026.

West Midlands Police has not confirmed the specific allegation but Councillor Creaney said the arrest followed a report of ‘harassment’.

He said: “At the end of the day it’s a live investigation. I’m willing to let the police carry on with their investigation and they’re going to uncover the - truth about certain people.

“They’ve just got to follow a complaint, that’s it, and they can carry on because there’s nothing to hide. With me, what you see is what you get.”

Councillor Creaney said he has faced no sanctions as a result of the arrest from either Walsall Council or the Reform UK party.

Reform UK has not responded to the Local Democracy Reporting Service on the matter.

A spokesperson for Walsall Council said: “This is a matter for the police. Any enquiries should be directed to them.”

West Midlands Police has declined to comment.

Councillor Creaney had previously served as a Labour councillor in the Willenhall South ward between 2004 and 2022.

He stood as a Reform candidate for New Invention ahead of the May 2026 elections and won alongside Reform colleagues Gill Mitchell and Daniel Rollinson.
