And 45 jobs are currently being advertised for the under-development Walsall Energy Recovery Facility being put up by clean energy developer Encyclis, in Fryers Road, Beechdale.

The latest Express & Star drone footage shows progress being made at the site. The developer said the construction team has recently hit the milestone of one million hours on site without accidents.

Recent months have seen the installation of the steam turbine, boiler drum and grate components by the principal contractor, Hampshire-based Kanadevia Inova, which specialises in engineering and construction.

Once up and running the plant will use combustion technology processes to convert around 478,000 tonnes of waste annually into enough electricity to power up to 142,000 homes in the region and to National Grid. The facility was also expected to extract mineral materials and metals for recycling and serve the district’s heat network.

Encyclis is working in partnership with Walsall Council to create the energy from waste plant. The company said it was important addition to its integrated facilities in the Midlands.

The plant near the Wyrley & Essington Canal is due to come into operation late 2027. In the meantime the company has launched a recruitment exercise for a health and safety manager, an environmental manager, an electrical, control and instrumentation team leader, a mechanical team leader, a shift team leader, a shift plant operator and a day shift team leader with plans to open more roles plus apprenticeships for young people.
