'She picked him out in a crowd of 10,000!' Nine-year-old Becky Hill superfan thrilled to meet his hero at show

Nine-year-old George was stunned after the singer noticed his sign and went down to pose for a photo with him

A youngster has been left reliving the moment he got to meet one of his heroes while she was performing at a packed concert.

George Morgan-Smith was at Forest Live at Cannock Chase on Friday (June 26) to see Becky Hill with his family and had prepared a sign to show to the Bewdley-born singer, declaring himself her biggest fan and asking for a photo with her.

The nine-year-old, who lives in South Staffordshire, said he had been waving the sign at her when she noticed and waved at him, then, after she had sung the song he referred to on his sign, she came down to pose for a photo.

He said: “She waved at me during the show and I thought that was all I was going to get, but I had put ‘my heart goes la di da for you’ on the sign and when she had finished singing that song, she pointed at me and came down.

“I was really shocked and surprised that she did that, but she posed for the photo and I was really happy and excited.

“It was really nice and I’ve been telling everyone and my friends are really jealous of me.”

George’s mother Jayne said George had become a fan of Becky Hill when they saw a tribute act at Butlins in 2022, playing one of her albums on repeat, and they had decided to go to Cannock Chase as soon as they heard about the singer performing there.

She said: “As soon as I heard about it, we decided to go and we decided to do the VIP as I didn’t know what to expect at Cannock Chase and I didn’t know how far away we would be from the stage.

“George then said he wanted to do a poster asking her for a photo, so even though I Googled it and found out that 10,000 people would be there, I thought we could at least try, so we went to Hobbycraft and got it all ready.

“George loves her songs and has even learned a few of them and played on the guitar at his school’s talent show.”

Ms Morgan said she was still taking in what had happened at the show, but said it had been a great moment and one they’d never forget.

She said: “It was surreal at the time and still doesn’t feel real now as we were stood there on Friday saying ‘did that really just happen?’

“People were taking my number to send me photos and asking how I was feeling and I just said I was so proud of him as he was so confident that he could make this happen.

“We were thinking that she’d picked him out in a crowd of 10,000 and that was good enough, but then, to come down and see him was amazing and I could see his eyes were filling up.

“It was just such an amazing experience for everyone.”
