Fire service issues warning around waste after factory fire in Cannock

The fire broke out in a business, with fire crews having to force entry to tackle the fire.

The fire service in Staffordshire has advised businesses across the county to ensure waste is cleared frequently after a recent fire.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service said crews were called to tackle a fire at a factory on Fairway in Bridgtown in Cannock at 5.20pm on Monday following reports of smoke coming from a building.

Three appliances attended the scene and crews forced entry to the building, with a small fire being extinguished using a hose reel jet and the building was ventilated.

Station Manager Russ Brown attended the scene and said nobody was reported injured and also reminded businesses to ensure waste and clutter was cleared away.

He said: “Although the business was closed when this fire started, accidental fires can happen at any time.

“That’s why it’s important that businesses regularly inspect fire doors and have a suitable fire risk assessment.

“Waste and clutter should be cleared frequently, as combustible materials like paper, cardboard and wood can easily accumulate and provide ample fuel for fires to spread.”
