Family traumatised by 'distressing' arson attack in Willenhall

Police opened probe after reports of cars set on fire at Willenhall property for a second time

A family is appealing for help to catch the people responsible for a suspected arson attack on two homes, leaving cars wrecked.

Officers are investigating following the incident involving a black and red Ford Ranger and a brand new grey BMW which were parked on drives in Yale Road in Willenhall.

The vehicles were set alight at around 3.15am on August 22.

Upset householder Ranjit Kaur said it was the second time in two years that a car at her property was attacked by arsonists.

In the latest incident a BMW given to her nephew Ranjan Dhaliwal, aged 22, as a gift from his mother Manjit, aged 47, was also wrecked.

Ranjit, who is self-employed, explained: “Our Ford Ranger was wrecked in a suspected arson attack on this drive and opposite is my sister's house where a brand new BMW B Class Force was attacked as well. Both cars have been set on fire.

“Both our families were sleeping inside the houses. My sister's kids were actually sleeping in the garage and with the panic everybody woke up.

“The cars were literally on fire and their house was just about to catch fire as well. So this is very, very distressing for us, for my family, for my kids, and and we have been traumatised by this whole incident.

“And the reason for this video is just really to see if anybody out there has got any information, any CCTV footage, and any information which can help to find out who would have done this.

“Our CCTV has picked up two males, completely covered up in tracksuits and walking on the street. You could clearly see on the CCTV. They walk towards our drive at around 3.09am.

“They were literally on the drive till 3.14am. They had petrol bombs in their hands. The police have actually taken the CCTV to check it.”

In November 2022 a similar incident happened at Ranjit’s home when two hooded figures were filmed lingering around the property at around 3am on a Sunday morning before a Black Ford Ranger was set alight.

West Midlands Police confirmed that the latest fire had been reported and that inquiries were ongoing.

Witnesses or anyone with information should phone officers on 101 or use the force’s live chat system quoting log 455 of August 22.
