We joined England fans at Cannock sports bar for 2026 World Cup 2-1 win against DR Congo - As it happened

England won 2-1 against the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the round of 32

England faced off against the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the first knockout stage of the 2026 World Cup and progressed to a Round of 16 game on Monday morning at 1am against Mexico with a 2-1 win.

The Three Lions started their group strong, overcoming Croatia 4-2 on June 17, before a 0-0 draw with Ghana the following week and a number of injuries caused coach Thomas Tuchel some headaches.

But in their final group game England overcame Panama with the latest goals from Harry Kane and Stourbridge’s own Jude Bellingham ensuring they topped the group, setting up today’s match against DR Congo at Atlanta Stadium.

We’ve been watching with England fans all the way, joining supporters at pubs across the West Midlands - and for today’s crucial round of 32 match, we headed to Bar Sport in Cannock.

All of England’s group games kicked off at 9pm or later due to time differences (the tournament is taking place in the USA, Mexico and Canada) - today’s 5pm start was welcome news for pubs, who are hoping to do a roaring trade.

Here’s how the action unfolded:
