'We'll be here to give them all the support that they need' - Walsall school launches National Lottery-funded community hub to help people learn valuable life skills
An academy in Walsall has opened a new community hub that they hope will serve local people in a variety of different ways.
Field Road Academy in Bloxwich, Walsall were able to build the hub on their site thanks to a £20,000 fund from the National Lottery and their 'Good Causes' campaign.
The school say the hub will offer a new, quiet place for parents to gather and spend time chatting over a hot drink, as well as providing the school with a safe space to teach workshops on a variety of like skills to people from the local community.
"We're proud to have opened our lovely new Community Hub," Dianne Newton, headteacher at Field Road Academy, said. "We were very fortunate to secure a £20,000 fund from the National Lottery for the hub, and it will be used for a lot of things.
"Parents can come in and have a cup of coffee and a chin wag, but more importantly we're going to offer workshops on housing, the job centre, and for any form of benefits that we can help them with.
"We'll be able to signpost them to other areas that they may need some help with, and we'll be here to give them all the support that they need."
The site of Field Road Academy used to be the home of Blakenhall Heath Junior School, which closed in 2025 before being converted into Field Road Academy in September, 2025.
