Attacking player Leah Dixon and defender Isabel Stevenson impressed selectors at trials involving netballers from across the country.

Both Stafford Grammar School athletes earned places in the under-17 Nova Academy, while Leah made such an impact that she was also invited to join the under-19 national performance league squad.

The Stars-linked set-up is a joint venture between the universities of Worcester and Gloucestershire. Stafford Grammar was chosen as its newest hub and it is grouped with nine established centres across the West Midland and South West regions.

Carly Slater, head of girls’ PE, added: “These girls have earned the right to train and compete at this high level.

"It’s a step towards Severn Stars, who are one of the best netball teams in the country and play the likes of Manchester Thunder and Wasps.”
