A company that has helped in rebuilding a destroyed Black Country pub has urged the use of 3D scanning in any eventual rebuilding of The Crooked House at Himley.

Artec 3D worked on the rebuilding of Wolverhampton's Elephant and Castle at the Black Country Living Museum in Dudley.

It used 3D scanners to replicate the exact details and character of the pub that originally stood at the corner of Staford Street and Cannock Road.

Artec 3D founder and chief executive Artyom Yukhin said: "Pubs are more than just architectural landmarks; they are living repositories of British cultural history. Each pub, like the Elephant and Castle, tells a unique story that resonates with communities across generations.

"The recent destruction of the Crooked House, located just miles away, serves as a poignant reminder of the fragility of pub heritage. It underscores the urgent need to employ innovative approaches, such as 3D scanning, to preserve these cultural treasures before they are lost forever.

"The use of advanced 3D scanning allows for the meticulous digitisation of intricate details, ensuring the faithful recreation of historical designs. This technology serves as a bridge between the past and the present, enabling craftsmen to breathe new life into heritage sites."

The owners of the Crooked House have just been told to rebuild the pub which was demolished after a fire wrecked it last year.

South Staffordshire Council is serving an enforcement notice for the unlawful demolition.

It is being issued under the Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development Order 2015) requires the building to be built back to what it was prior to a fire which destroyed it in August.

Some of the walls of the pub still remain and there are cellars still in place.
