The crusty cob is once again tantalising the taste buds at the Beacon Hotel in Sedgley following a 90-name petition from drinkers and a campaign by the Express & Star which sparked interest globally.
Customers were in a pickle when the Black Country tradition was taken off sale after falling foul of the food police.
Environmental health inspectors raised concerns about how the cling film-wrapped cobs were stored.
They said the cobs should be chilled and until a fridge was installed at the pub drinkers would have to make do with a bag of crisps and a packet of pork scratchings.
Outraged customers decided to bite back and demanded that the cobs, which had been served at the Beacon for 80 years, were reinstated.
Landlord John Hughes has now installed a fridge and this week regular Dennis Darby was the first to sink his teeth into one of the savouries supplied by Sedgley butcher CD Field. The price of the snack has increased from £1 to £1.40.
But Mr Darby said: "It won't stop me chomping on a cheese cob. I was the first to sample the new cheese and onion cob and it is certainly a superior cob. They will be washed down a treat with a pint of Ruby Mild.
"People were outraged when they were taken off the menu as they are part of our heritage.
"The campaign started as a bit of fun but we had drinkers from Wales who visited the pub and people in Australia and South Africa who gave their support. Thanks also to the Express & Star for backing us."
