A Black Country charity has awarded £1,000 to three charitable organisations after launching a grants scheme.

The Saleem Foundation (TSF) awarded the cash to Dudley-based groups Lunch on the Run, More Mascots Please CIC and Dudley Care Leavers.

The money will go to helping disabled people and disadvantaged children.

TSF is set to open a second round of funding on January 11 where charitable groups can apply for cash to fund causes.

Alexandra Darby, vice chairwoman of TSF, said: "It was amazing to hear about some of the amazing work people are doing.

"We want to support as many groups as possible.

"Well done to the winners, we would encourage any organisation or individual to try again in the second round."

Pensnett-based Lunch on the Run, which supports people with learning disabilities and autism, received £300 to purchase an iPad so trainees could learn technology skills.

Kingswinford-based More Mascots Please CIC, which supports disabled and disadvantaged people, was awarded £250 funding for a Christmas-themed event.

Amazon Prime gifts, worth £460, was donated to Dudley Care Leavers, which is run by the borough council's children's services.

It follows other good work by the charity this year which saw the organisation donate 60 chocolate boxes to Sutton School, in Dudley.

TSF was founded in 2017 by taxi boss Shaz Saleem, who owns Beacon Taxis, in Dudley, and Express Taxis, Halesowen, to support charitable causes in the Black Country and Birmingham.

The group has also worked on projects highlighting mental health, breast cancer awareness, domestic violence and dementia.

Mr Saleem added: "From my experience I know how important these grants could be to those groups who are striving to make a real difference in their community."

The deadline for applications on the next round of funding ends on March 14. For information, wmail [email protected] or visit the charity's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/thesaleemfoundation.
