Dramatic images show flames shooting out of roof of derelict Walsall pub and aftermath

Images show multiple fire crews tackling the blaze, which broke out inside the former pub.

Dramatic images from a local resident have shown the scale of a blaze tackled by fire crews at a former pub in Walsall Wood.

The images from Scott Hamer show flames shooting out of the roof of the former Black Cock pub on Green Lane, with large orange flames clearly visible in the night sky.

Four fire crews were called to the scene on Wednesday morning, around 3.30am, with the public advised to avoid the area.

Hours later, the damage caused by the fire was clear for all to seen, with blackened beams and roof tiles visible from the street and a burning smell in the air.

We’ve picked out the best photos from Scott Hamer, as well as our own photos of the aftermath of the fire.

A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service said: “Shortly after 1.45am on Wednesday, we responded to Green Lane, Walsall Wood.

“Four fire engines and a hydraulic aerial platform attended, crewed by firefighters from Walsall, Aldridge, Wednesbury and Willenhall stations.

“This was a fire in a derelict two-storey building, which was formally used as a pub.

“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire, using the hydraulic platform to reach all floors of the building.Green Lane and Oakwood Road were closed whilst we worked at the scene.

“We scaled down our resources and continued damping down hotspots. National Grid engineers remained in attendance, isolating electrics to the building.”
