'Disgraceful!' Residents' fury as crates used to cover potholes in Codsall Co-op car park
The issue has now escalated to the point where one section of the car park has been fenced off
Shoppers say the condition of a supermarket car park in Codsall has become so poor that plastic crates are now being used to help vehicles navigate around huge potholes.
Residents have raised concerns about the state of the car park at the Co-op supermarket on Wood Road for more than a year, claiming repeated complaints have failed to bring about lasting repairs.
The issue has now escalated to the point where one section of the car park has been fenced off after a pothole measuring around eight inches deep developed, while crates have been placed in other damaged areas to allow motorists to drive across them.

The problems were further highlighted at the beginning of June when heavy rainfall left parts of the car park flooded, with standing water obscuring potholes and making conditions even more dangerous.

Residents say the deteriorating surface has become increasingly hazardous for both motorists and pedestrians.
One local resident who spoke to the Express & Star described the situation as "terrible”.

He said: "I know several people who have damaged their cars and tyres in this car park. It's been like this for far too long and nothing seems to happen.
"I'm hoping that by the Express & Star covering the issue it will finally force something to be done."

The concerns have prompted renewed calls for permanent repairs; residents say they have previously been given assurances that work would take place, only for the problems to remain.
When initially approached by the Express & Star, the store manager said the issues would be addressed on July 16.

Responding to a request for comment, a spokesperson for Mid Counties Co-op confirmed the repairs remain scheduled for that date.
They said: "I can confirm that the repairs are scheduled for the 16th. A previously scheduled appointment had to be postponed because of the extreme heat in the last couple of weeks."
Motorists say they will be watching closely to see whether the planned works finally bring an end to the long-running problems.
