Food fans flock to Black Country Museum for launch of street food tour

More than a thousand food fans filled the streets of Dudley’s heritage museum to enjoy good food, cold drinks and spring sunshine.

There was a party atmosphere in the air as food lovers descended on the Black Country Living Museum to enjoy the launch of a popular touring dining club.

More than a thousand street food enthusiasts travelled to the museum on Friday for the launch of the Digbeth Dining Club Summer Tour in the latest collaboration between the two institutions.

There were 10 street food businesses from across the West Midlands, along with cocktail, fizz and craft beer bars, and the Museum’s beloved 1950s Elephant & Castle pub, all of which enjoyed a brisk trade as spring sunshine bathed the historic site in Dudley.

The setting of the 1930s-1960s-era streets at the museum, which scooped Gold in the Best Visitor Attraction at the VisitEngland Awards last year, proved a perfect backdrop for food creators, with fried chicken, pizza, shawarma, steak and tacos amongst the offer.

The launch was attended by Sonia Kumar, MP for Dudley, who said: “Events like this put Dudley firmly on the map, celebrating our heritage while showcasing the energy, creativity and community spirit that define us today.

“Digbeth Dining Club has built a national reputation for bringing people together through food and culture, and it was fantastic to see that brought to life in one of our most historic settings.”
