20 pictures reveal the decline of Walsall's town centre as traders voice concerns

Traders raise alarm over deteriorating condition and amenities at Walsall's Old Square shopping centre, as photos reveal the extent of the decline.

Traders express concerns over the decline of Walsall's Old Square shopping centre, citing issues with unit maintenance and parking facilities.

Recently, a trader who doesn’t want to be named, contacted the Express & Star, they complained about the shopping centre’s poor condition of the shopping centre, specifically citing issues with mould, leaking roofs, and a generally derelict appearance.

For those, who are unaware, Old Square is a shopping centre located in the beating heart Walsall.

It’s a place where Walsallians have been shopping for about 57 years - the shopping centre first opened in 1969.

Alarmed by these claims, we decided to take a nosy for ourselves.

Speaking to some traders in the area, they told us that the shopping centre is looking slightly worse for wear these days.

Many aren’t happy with the state of their units and leaking roofs.

In addition to this, the Old Square Car park appears to be out of action. We took these photos in the public parts of the town centre.

We’ve contacted the shopping centre for comment.

Take a look below at what we spotted during a recent visit to Walsall’s town centre:
