Wolverhampton man, 38, was shot in the leg and had bullets and £78,000 of drugs in his flat

A drug dealing man from Wolverhampton, who was shot in the leg, was found in possession of bullets and £78,000 of drugs in his flat.

Mohammed Jamil, aged 38, was discovered by police in his Citroen, drenched in blood, in Westbourne Road, Goldthorne Hill, Wolverhampton.

Shrewsbury Crown Court was told Jamil, who has worked at the Little Dessert Shop, was found at about 6.30pm on December 18, 2024 after police received a 999 call.

Jamil was rushed to hospital, and later told officers that he did not know who had shot him and that it must have been “a case of mistaken identity”.

However, police found 112 grams of heroin in his car, worth about £4,000 in street deals.

They also found a phone with messages indicative of drug dealing, including one arranging to meet someone on the day he was shot, requesting a “password”.

After further investigation, police raided Jamil’s flat in Windmill Lane, Castlecroft, Wolverhampton, on February 19 last year.

There they found 18 9mm bullets, £10,000 in cash, 767g of heroin, 185g of cocaine and 400g of crack cocaine.

It was estimated the drugs were worth up to £78,000.

“The prosecution say he had a significant role,” said Sally Cairns, prosecuting. “He would have known the scale of the operation.

“It is aggravated further by the presence of children in the flat.”

Jamil, of Ward Street, Wolverhampton, pleaded not guilty to four counts of possession with intent to supply class A drugs and one of possession of ammunition without a firearm certificate, but was found guilty of all five charges after trial.

He has one previous conviction for two offences - burglary and criminal damage in 2017.

Emily Waggott, mitigating, said: “He accepts the verdict of the jury and responsibility for this offending.”

She added that Jamil turned to drugs after getting involved with “pro criminal peers”.

Ms Waggott also said that Jamil's old boss at the Little Dessert Shop is open to giving him his job back when he is released from custody.

"Rank stupidity"

Judge Deni Mathews told Jamil: “There are few things more poisonous to communities than drugs. With drugs comes crime and disorder.

“You have been found in possession of ammunition. You had the misfortune to be shot in the leg.

“You were driving precisely the sort of criminality that nearly killed you and that brings misery upon the community.”

Further addressing what was found in the raid of Jamil’s flat, Judge Mathews said: “The aggravating factor is that you had the rank stupidity of having those drugs where children spend time.”

He jailed Jamil for six-and-a-half years. It is expected Jamil will serve no more than half of that time behind bars before being released on licence.

Jamil will also be subject of a proceeds of crime case to try and recoup some of his ill-gotten gains.
