Wolverhampton driver, 23, drove under influence of cannabis on the M54 the day before being sentenced for a previous drug driving offence

A Mercedes driver was caught under the influence of cannabis the day before he was sentenced for a previous drug driving offence.

Rhys Corinaldi-Embrey, aged 23, was driving with an illegal substance in his system for the second time in a matter of months, this time on the M54.

Telford Magistrates Court was told that police were following Corinaldi-Embrey and found that his car was showing up as uninsured.

He pulled into Shifnal services for fuel and officers went to speak to him. They could smell cannabis on him so carried out a roadside drug test, which proved positive.

Corinaldi-Embrey was arrested and taken to custody, where a drugs test found he had 3.2 micrograms of Delta 9 THC - the main psychoactive ingredient in cannabis - per litre of blood. The legal limit, accounting for the possibility of accidental exposure, is 2mcg.

Corninaldi-Embrey, of Regis Road, Tettenhall, Wolverhampton, pleaded guilty to driving with a proportion of a controlled drug above the legal specified limit.

The court was told that the day after he was caught for this offence, he was in court being sentenced for a drug driving offence that took place in December 2024. He received a 12-month road ban for it.

Representing himself in court, Corinaldi-Embrey told magistrates: “I’ve stopped smoking,” adding he used it due to his ADHD.

He said that he is training for a job to fit flooring.

Magistrates banned Corinaldi-Embrey from driving for 23 months and fined him £120.

Corinaldi-Embrey was also ordered to pay a £48 victim surcharge and £85 in prosecution costs, bringing his legal bill to £253.
