'It's made for a terrible Christmas': Wolverhampton residents left fearful following 'horrific' Christmas Day murder

Residents of a 'quiet' Wolverhampton neighbourhood have been left terrified following a murder on their road on Christmas Day.

'It was a terrible way to spend Christmas' said residents of Burcot Avenue, Wolverhampton, who were shocked to hear that a killing had taken place on their road early on Christmas morning.

Emergency services rushed to the scene of a residential property on the road just after 3.30am on Christmas Day (Thursday), to reports that a 30-year-old man had been stabbed.

Despite the efforts of emergency services crews, the man was declared dead at the scene.

Two men, aged 35 and 58, have been arrested on suspicion of the murder, with police spending the majority of Christmas afternoon holding enquiries around the area, and offering reassurances to residents.

However, residents have said that the incident 'made for a terrible Christmas', with many saying that they didn't want their children 'playing near a crime scene'.

One resident, Samantha Burnes, 38, of the area, said: "It made for a terrible Christmas, really. It's so sad to hear. I can't imagine what the family is going through. This is a quiet street normally.

"When something like this happens, you don't really want your kids playing in the street. But, for that to happen on Christmas Day, I didn't even let them go out to play with their toys."

The two men were arrested following 'quick-time' enquiries by police investigators, with the force quickly launching an appeal for information.

One resident, who didn't want to be named, said: "When I heard what happened, I didn't believe it. It's terrifying. It's tragic for the family.

"I spent all day trying to stop the kids from hearing about it. You don't want them having that image of Christmas."
