Interim road ban for dangerous driver who caused fatal crash in Tipton
A dangerous driver has been given an interim road ban after admitting causing the death of a man in a two-vehicle crash in Tipton.
Richard Strickland, aged 47, previously pleaded guilty to causing the death by dangerous driving of Deepak Nayyar and causing serious injury by dangerous driving to Davinder Bains relating to a collision which happened on January 3, 2024.
The incident happened near the junction of Alexandra Road and Thursfield Road at around 6.30pm, resulting in the death of a man.
Judge Michael Chambers KC told a hearing at Wolverhampton Crown Court this week that the case was not ready for sentencing.
"You are subject to an interim road ban with immediate effect.
"You had the courage to plead guilty to these offences. We still need to know what your plea basis is before you are sentenced." the judge said.
At the time West Midlands Ambulance Service stated: “On arrival, crews found two vehicles with very substantial damage.
“There were two men in the car, both with potentially life threatening injuries. Ambulance staff worked with firefighter to rapidly extricate them. Both received advanced trauma care at the scene before being taken on blue lights to the Major Trauma Centre at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, one with the MERIT team travelling, the other with the CARE Team on board the ambulance. Both patients were said to be in a critical condition on arrival.
“The van driver was trapped for almost an hour. He too had suffered serious injuries and was taken to the same hospital with the Midlands Air Ambulance critical care paramedic travelling with the ambulance crew.”
The following day West Midlands Police launched a public appeal for information from witnesses to what happened.
Judge Chambers granted Strickland, of John Drive, Tipton, bail until April when the case will next be heard.
