Birmingham city centre road closed and buses diverted after man found 'seriously injured'

A road in Birmingham has closed due to an ongoing incident where a man was found seriously injured.

Colmore Row at Temple Row West, Birmingham, has closed after a man was found seriously injured on the road.

West Midlands Police reported that they were called to the incident on Colmore Row shortly after 2.30am today, after the man was found on the street.

The man was rushed to hospital with a serious head injury, with officers now carrying out enquiries in the area.

Anyone with information is asked to contact West Midlands Police via their 101 number, or on the Live Chat service on their website, quoting reference 258 of 5 March.

A force spokesperson said: "We were called to Colmore Row shortly after 2.30am today (5 March) after a man was found seriously injured in the street.

"He was taken to hospital with a serious head injury, and we are carrying out enquiries in the area to understand how the man came to be injured.

"Anyone who was in the area at the time can call 101 quoting log 258 of 5 March."

Transport for West Midlands warned of bus diversions due to the incident, saying that those who usually use Newhall Street have been diverted down Church Street.

Part of Colmore Row, next to Cathedral Square, has been cordoned off by West Midlands Police, with a small blue forensic tent being placed next to the bus stop on the road.

Transport for West Midlands announced the incident on X, saying: "Colmore Row at Temple Row West, Birmingham is closed due to an ongoing incident. 

"Buses which usually use Newhall Street are diverting down Church Street. Buses are unable to set down and pick up at stop SH1."

West Midlands Ambulance Service reported that a paramedic officer and an MERIT trauma doctor attended the scene, as well as two ambulances. 

On arrival, they discovered the man, who was treated for serious injuries before being taken to hospital for further assessment. 

An ambulance spokesperson said: "We were called to reports of an incident on Colmore Row at 2.31am. Two ambulances, a paramedic officer and a MERIT trauma doctor with a critical care paramedic attended the scene. 

"On arrival, we discovered one patient, a man. 

"He was treated for serious injuries before being taken to hospital for further assessment."
