Suspected drink driver arrested after failing to stop in Sandwell

Police have announced the arrest of a man on suspicion of drink driving after a driver failed to stop for officers.

West Midlands Police's response officers from Sandwell were assisted by the National Police Air Service when they spotted a vehicle driving dangerously and without headlights shortly before 1am this morning.

A 26-year-old was later arrested on Cypress Road, Yew Tree, on suspicion of drink driving, dangerous driving, failure to stop, and driving whilst disqualified.

He remains in custody whilst police continue to investigate.

A force spokesperson said: "Drink and drug driving remains a policing priority. Together with our partners, we are doing everything possible to stop such reckless and selfish behaviour.

"Our officers are highly trained to spot drink or drug drivers, and we have the technology to test for it. If you’re over the limit, you will be arrested. No excuses.

"In an emergency or if someone is in danger, call 999."
