Boy, 16, arrested after teenager hurt in machete attack at Merry Hill centre

Police have arrested a 16-year-old after another teenager was injured in a a machete attack at the Merry Hill shopping centre in Brierley Hill.

The boy was detained at around 5pm on Saturday (November 29) on suspicion of wounding with intent after a 17-year-old male was attacked on Friday afternoon.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "It is believed there was an altercation involving two groups, with one group chasing the other.

"The victim suffered a small cut to the back with a weapon, believed to be a machete, which needed medical attention.

"We received a number of calls from members of the public who were in the centre at the time, at around 3.30pm.

"We still need to hear from anyone who has mobile phone footage, who saw what happened, or who has any other information.

"Extra officers will be patrolling in and around Merry Hill over the weekend to offer reassurance, and speak to anyone with concerns.
