Two arrested during Aston Villa Europa League tie following violent crowd disorder at Villa Park

Two people were arrested at Villa Park last night after disorder at the Aston Villa vs BSC Young Boys match.

Disorder broke out inside the stadium during the first half of the Europa League Cup tie, as item, including broken seats and coins were thrown by away fans at Aston Villa players and police officers, and one player was struck on the head.

West Midlands Police officers were assaulted during the disorder.

Two away fans were arrested on suspicion of affray and assaulting a police officer.

Superintendent Paul Minor said: “We won’t tolerate violence of any kind at football matches.

“The majority of the crowd was in good spirit but unfortunately a small minority of away fans caused violence and disrupted the game.

“An investigation has been launched, and officers are reviewing body worn video and CCTV from the stadium of the disorder.”
