Serial Birmingham thief charged after being caught by 'Operation Fearless' officers

A man has been charged with a string of shop thefts on Erdington High Street, after he was arrested by West Midlands Police's Operation Fearless officers.

Joshua Jewkes, 24, from Erdington, was charged with seven theft offences, and is due at Birmingham Magistrates on Thursday, October 2 morning.

He was arrested by West Midlands Police's Operation Fearless officers in Erdington on October 1 on suspicion of thefts from several different stores, including on the High Street.

Operation Fearless has expanded to the Southside area of Birmingham from Erdington, but maintains a presence there – working with West Midlands Police's dedicated team of neighbourhood officers to tackle the issues that businesses and residents tell us are a problem.

Police say they are catching hundreds more suspected shop thieves in the West Midlands as they continue to act against retail crime across the region.

Arrests for shop theft offences have risen by over 60 per cent in the last two years.
