Tehmoor Hussain was shot at Katz Kutz on Wolverhampton Road in Birchills on May 19, 2019.

Wolverhampton Crown Court heard that Mr Hussain was sitting in a barber's chair just after 5pm when Uzair Shahid and Toyub Ali entered the shop, at the junction with Raleigh Street, and confronted him about money for a car.

Mr Hussain was brought out on a stretcher with a bandage around his stomach and taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham for treatment after emergency services were called.

Wolverhampton Crown Court was shown CCTV footage on Wednesday of the movements of a black BMW X1 prior to the shooting, gathered from a range of sources and compiled by investigating officer Detective Constable Craig Bathgate.

An image was also shown of three men emerging from a car park in Avion Close, Walsall, just after 6.30pm.

“The BMW was found in a burnt out condition in the car park of Avion Close,” said Mr Russell Pine for the prosecution.

On May 30, DC Polly Venables went with DC Bathgate to Saddlers Tyres on Wednesbury Road, after a warrant was obtained to search the premises.

There the court heard she obtained video from a member of the public’s phone of the forecourt of Saddlers Tyres dated May 19, the day of the shooting.

The footage shows a group of men with a black BMW X1.

DC Bathgate told the court he recognised both of the defendants in the footage.

“We know you interviewed Toyub Ali before you went to Saddlers Tyres,” said Mr Pine.

“What was it about his appearance that made you recognise him?

“Everything, the beard, the hair, his height and build - I recognised him immediately.”

“Did you recognise anyone else?” asked Mr Pine.

“Uzair Shahid,” replied DC Bathgate.

“What is it about that figure that makes you think it is Mr Shahid?” asked Mr Pine.

“I recognised the shape of his nose, his face, his relatively round face, wide cheekbones, thick eyebrows.”

CCTV footage was also shown of the man DC Bathgate identified as Toyub Ali having his head and beard shaved off on the evening of May 19 at Headquarterz Barber Shop in Caldmore Green.

The court heard that Uzair Shahid was arrested at 5.15am on May 20, 2019, at his home in Lichfield Street and taken to Oldbury Police Station.

On May 21 Toyub Ali visited Wolverhampton Police Station “to the surprise” of the investigating officer DC Bathgate.

DC Bathgate questioned the men and told the court that they both said “no comment” when asked about the incident of May 19.

Shahid, 21, of Lichfield Road in Walsall, is charged with attempted murder, causing grievous bodily harm with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

Ali, 19, of no fixed abode, is charged with possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear or violence.

Both deny the charges.

The trial continues.
