Tehmoor Hussain, 24, suffered serious stomach wounds during the incident at the Katz Kutz barber shop, in Wolverhampton Road, in Birchills, on May 19, 2019.

Wolverhampton Crown Court was told that Mr Hussain was sitting in a barber's chair just after 5pm when Uzair Shahid, also known as Jeeza, and Toyub Ali entered the shop at the junction with Raleigh Street and confronted him about money for a car.

Giving evidence in the witness box Mr Hussain told the jury he was a regular customer at the premises near his home.

More:

"Toyub and 'Jeeza' came in the shop while I was there. Toyub said to me 'you owe us money for the car'," he said.

"I was sitting in the chair. He was over my shoulder on the left-hand side. There is a giant mirror in front of me."

"He punched me on the back of my head on the right-hand side.

"I got off the chair and faced them. I was in shock, at which point Geeza said 'Yeah, yeah watch'. Toyub was standing next to him."

Mr Hussain said that after a minute or two the defendants ran out of the shop.

"They ran to the car which was parked outside. From what I could see it was a black BMW SUV type car.

"Jeeza went to the back of the car. He opened the back passenger door of the car on the driver's side. He pointed it towards my direction. My arms were out pushing the door closed. It was a glass door.

"I was worried and in state of shock. I didn't know what else to do.

"I was saying to him 'don't shoot'. I can't say if he heard me or not. I heard a loud bang. My ears were ringing, my legs gave way. I felt a warm feeling and I fell to the floor," Mr Hussain said.

Mr Hussain told the jury the barber phoned for an ambulance.

He said there had been a previous incident when he was a passenger in a friend's Toyota which was involved in a minor collision with a red Renault in the Chuckery area of the town. Mr Hussain said his friend did not stop following the incident and had told him "not to worry about it".

He also said he saw Youtub Ali in the Renault's front passenger seat, but he could not say who was driving it.

Mr Hussain was airlifted to hospital following the shooting where he underwent three operations before being discharged a month later.

The jury also heard he was interviewed by detectives investigating the shooting and he identified the defendants from film footage shown to him.

Shahid, 21, of Lichfield Road, Rushall, Walsall, denies attempted murder, causing grievous bodily harm with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life. Toyub Ali, 19, of no fixed abode, denies possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear or violence.

The trial continues.
