Parents arrested after death of two-month-old girl in the Black Country
A man and a woman have been arrested after the death of a two-month-old girl in the Black Country.
The baby died in hospital on Friday after suffering serious head injuries at home in West Bromwich on Thursday morning.
A man and a woman, understood to be the baby's parents, were arrested on suspicion of assault on Thursday and have since been bailed.
They have not been arrested on suspicion of any further charges since their daughter's death, West Midlands Police confirmed.
Officers searched the two-bed maisonette in Caddick Crescent where the baby was injured for much of Thursday and Friday and the home has now been boarded up.
A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "We’ve arrested two people after a two-month-old baby was taken to hospital with serious head injuries on Thursday.
"Sadly the baby girl died on Friday afternoon and a post mortem examination will take place in due course to establish the exact cause of her death.
"A 31-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman were arrested on Thursday on suspicion of assault and have been released on police bail while our enquiries continue."
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman added: "We were called to reports of a medical emergency at a private address on Caddick Crescent at 10.10am on Thursday.
"One ambulance, a paramedic officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance Critical Care Car attended the scene.
"On arrival we discovered a baby who was in a serious condition.
"Following emergency treatment at the scene, the baby was transported to Sandwell Hospital on blue lights and sirens."
