Teenager released over Halesowen machete attack

A teenager arrested in connection with a machete attack in Halesowen has been released.

Officers from West Midlands Police had arrested the 14-year-old in the Oldbury area of Halesowen following the release of CCTV footage of the incident.

The force has now confirmed the boy had been released on police bail.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "The 14-year-old boy has been released on police bail pending further enquiries."

The boy was initially arrested on suspicion of attempted murder but following investigations the incident is now being treated as attempt to cause grievous bodily harm, police have confirmed today.

The incident happened in Victoria Street, Halesowen, on Wednesday June 17, at 3.45pm, with police saying the victim suffered a small puncture wound to his thigh.

Footage of the incident shared online showed the victim being approached by four youths in Victoria Street, three of whom had their faces covered.

One of the attackers appeared to stab the victim several times, one punched him and another attacked him with a large machete before running away.
