The laughing gas was found alongside a "large amount of cash" after police arrested two suspected drug dealers in Netherton on Friday.

Some of the canisters were found in a car the men had been travelling in along with several phones, cash and cannabis, with the rest discovered when officers searched addresses linked to the suspects.

"We conducted a search under the misuse of drugs act and located a substantial amount of cash, cannabis, several mobile phones and a substantial amount of nitrous oxide canisters.

"We arrested both occupants on suspicion of possessing controlled drugs with intent to supply and possession of a psychoactive substance with intent to supply.

"We conducted searches at addresses and located a large amount of cash and even more canisters, in total approximately 6,000."
