A man was stabbed in the face and hands in Walsall town centre.

The McDonald's branch in Wisemore was closed in the aftermath of the attack, which happened at around 5.20pm.

West Midlands Police, who cordoned off the restaurant and its car park, said officers were called to reports of "disorder"

"A man has been taken to hospital with stab wounds to his face and hands," a force spokesman added.

The restaurant operates 24 hours but staff closed the McDonald's overnight following the incident.

Police tape was placed across the restaurant's front door and across the perimeter of the car park.

Graham Payne, who witnessed the aftermath of the incident, said: "There were three police cars and two ambulances outside the restaurant after the stabbing happened."

One ambulance and a paramedic officer were sent to the scene after West Midlands Ambulance Service received a call from police.

The man suffered non life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital, a spokeswoman said.
