Daniel Pelechacz, aged 40, from Wednesbury, suffered serious head injuries at the Polski Bar Klimat on Temple Street, West Bromwich, and died in hospital two days later.

Krysztof Kowalski was charged with murder this week nearly a year after his death and appeared at Wolverhampton Crown Court today.

The court was told Kowalski, 38, had been "involved in the ejection of the deceased from the nightclub".

Mr Pelechacz was injured after falling down stairs in Klimat Polski Bar, above The Village Bar and Grill in Temple Street

The Polish national, of Greets Green Road, West Bromwich, who spoke only to confirm his personal details and was assisted by an interpreter in the dock, is set to face a trial next March.

Mr Antoine Muller, prosecuting, said: "Mr Kowalski is alleged to have been involved in the ejection of the deceased from the nightclub and by some way, in some mechanism, the deceased went down some stairs and received an injury from which he died."

Mr Muller also explained it was possible another person could be jointly charged with Mr Pelechacz's murder alongside Kowalski, who has yet to enter a plea.

He was remanded in custody and is due to return to the same court for a plea and trial preparation hearing on October 15.
