West Midlands PC in court over 'sexual relationship with victim'

A serving police officer has appeared in court over an alleged a sexual relationship with a victim of domestic abuse.

West Midlands Police Constable James Ankrett is charged with misconduct in public office and improper exercise of police powers, after meeting the woman during his duties as a police officer.

The 38-year-old of Hallam Way, Hednesford, appeared at Walsall Magistrates' Court today.

It is alleged the offences took place between July 7 2017 and May 5 2018 and after an investigation from the Independent Police Complaints Commission, he was charged in May this year.

Mr Ankrett did not enter a plea on the charges and has been given conditional bail.

He is due to appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court on August 1.
