Detective Sergeant Chris Jones said: "The investigation is still in the very early stages, and we’re trying to piece together the circumstances of the stabbing, and the events leading up to it.

"We know there were lots of people out enjoying Bank Holiday Sunday last night, and they may have witnessed the ongoing disorder in the city.

“I’m appealing for those people to come forward to tell us what they saw, as it may prove vital to the on-going enquiry.

“We’re also keen to hear from anyone with information about the stabbing in Humphries Road, in particular those who witnessed what happened, or know who was involved.”

One resident, who did not wish t be named, said: “We heard shouting from a lot of people outside and I saw a guy lying on the floor, it was very early and woke me up.

“I heard he was injured but I didn’t realise what had happened, it’s scary as I have children.”

Another added: “They were standing over a man on the floor and then someone in a car came and took him away.

“It’s scary to live near this, especially as it’s normally such a quiet area.

“We then saw the police and the cordon put up after that.”
