Armed police block off main road in Walsall

Armed police descended on a main road in Walsall amid a major incident.

Officers filed out of unmarked cars and trained their weapons near homes in Darlaston Road, Pleck.

Residents and workers at nearby businesses were told to stay inside during dramatic scenes.

Police say the incident is in relation to a suspected stolen car being driven on the road at speed.

But West Midlands Police has yet to reveal full details including on the deployment of armed officers.

The road was blocked at the junction with Hough Road, near where the M6 passes over the main road, and a police helicopter is hovering above.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "Police are responding to reports that a car, that is believed to be stolen, was being driven at speed in Darlaston Road, Pleck at 12.35pm today."
