West Bromwich bar 'linked to serious crime' has licence revoked amid murder probe
A bar has had its licence permanently revoked after a murder investigation was launched following the death of a customer.
Father-of-three Daniel Pelechacz was discovered unconscious in Temple Street, West Bromwich, in the early hours of September 30.
The 40-year-old from Wednesbury died of his injuries two days later.
Mr Pelechacz had been at the The Village and the Klimat Polski Bar above it before he was found injured.
Four men, aged 30, 35, 37 and 39, have since been arrested on suspicion of murder and bailed pending further inquiries.
Councillors were asked to permanently revoke the licence of The Village by a senior officer from West Midlands Police, who reported that in his opinion the premises on the corner of Temple Street and High Street was associated with ‘serious crime’.
Members of Sandwell Council’s licensing committee heard an application in private, after a temporary suspension of the licence was granted by a sub-committee on October 12.
An inquest on Mr Pelechacz was opened this week and heard that police believe the truck driver was ‘pushed or kicked’ down a flight of stairs, suffering a traumatic head injury.
Detective Mark Allen, from West Midlands Police, told the court that police believed Mr Pelechacz had been assaulted before they arrived at the scene.
Officers found him with facial cuts before he was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, and he died on October 2.
Almost £5,000 has been raised on a fundraising page in a bid to support Mr Pelechacz’s family.
In one month the JustGiving account hit £4,655, before being given to the family last week.
Police have continued to appeal for information one month on from Mr Pelechacz’s death.
