Man arrested after suspected hit-and-run leaves man dead

A man has been arrested after a suspected hit-and-run in Birmingham city centre which resulted in the death of a pedestrian.

The 36-year-old from Birmingham handed himself into a police station following the incident which happened in Belgrave Middleway in the early hours of Sunday.

He was arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving and failing to stop after a 23-year-old pedestrian died after being taken to hospital with serious injuries.

It it thought the victim was crossing the road at Belgrave Middleway at about 3.30am.

The suspect remains in police custody on Monday morning.

Officers are urging anyone who saw what happened to come forward.

Six people were killed after a horrific crash in the city centre last year.

The crash happened on a bend between Lee Bank and Belgrave Middleway on December 17.
