Off-duty cop stabbed in Great Barr after failed car jacking attempt

An off-duty police officer was stabbed in the chest for his car keys outside shops in broad daylight.

Officers were called to Moreton Avenue, near Queslett Road, Great Barr, shortly after 1.30pm today.

The victim, aged in his 20s, was approached by a man demanding the keys to his car, before he was stabbed in the chest by the attacker.

He was taken to hospital by air ambulance, where he was being treated for his injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening or life changing.

The offender made off from the scene in a dark blue Ford Fiesta.

The attack happened outside a row of shops at the junction of Moreton Avenue and Queslett Road

Barr Beacon School tweeted to say the air ambulance landed on its playing fields.

"The Air Ambulance has landed on our playing fields as we were the closest place to land for an incident in the local area," school officials said.
