Keelan Wilson was stabbed to death after trouble flared in the Merry Hill area of Wolverhampton on Tuesday night.

A murder investigation was launched yesterday as forensic teams made searches of the area around Langley Road.

The attack happened just hours after a group of men brandishing machetes were spotted fighting in Victoria Street near Beatties.

Armed police descended shortly after 3.30pm on Tuesday after footage captured the men swinging weapons as disorder spilled into the road near shops.

A West Midlands Police spokeswoman said detectives would explore if the violence was linked but investigations were at an early stage.

She said: "It is too early to say but we will be exploring if this is a possibility."

A mobile police station has been set up in the road should anyone want to talk to officers about what happened.

West Midlands Police officers were viewing CCTV in the area to trace those responsible for the knife attack which happened at around 11pm.

Chief Superintendent Jayne Meir said the killing was 'absolutely unnecessary' and called on the community to come forward with any information they can to catch those responsible.
