One woman, who lives nearby, said: "There was lots of ambulances and police.

"As soon as the ambulances came and the house was cordoned off, I knew there was something serious that happened.

"It is shocking to see, especially on your doorstep.

"Nothing like this happens around here. It is disturbing for the children.

"My son witnessed it. He went to the shop and saw a woman crying for help in the street. Within 30 seconds police were on the scene.

"There was a lady in the street shouting 'help me, help me'.

"She was waving in the middle of the road, waving cars to stop for help."

Detective Inspector Paul Joyce, from West Midlands Police's homicide unit, said: "We are in the very early stages of this enquiry, but at present we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the woman’s death.

"The couple are believed to be known to each other and we are working to establish what has led to this tragic outcome.

"Our family liaison unit are supporting the woman’s family and we would ask anyone with information which they believe will assist our enquiries to contact us on 101."
