Bill Billingham was initially arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after eight-year-old Mylee Billingham was found with serious stab wounds in Brownhills on Saturday evening.

However Mylee died after being rushed to hospital and her 54-year-old father was yesterday arrested on suspicion of murder.

The suspected killer was found with a stab wound to his stomach at the Valley View bungalow where Mylee was also discovered at around 9.15pm on Saturday.

After receiving surgery and being under sedation since Saturday, Billingham's condition is now described as serious but stable and he will be questioned by detectives once he has been deemed medically fit.

Dozens of pink ribbons have been placed around Brownhills in memory of Mylee, while tributes have continued to pour in for the former St James' Primary pupil.

Ribbons have appeared near St James Church, on lamp posts and among floral tributes outside the home where Mylee was found.

Meanwhile, more than £1,700 has been raised for Mylee’s family through an online GoFundMe campaign.

The funds are going to Mylee's mum Tracey, who is 'very grateful and thankful to everyone who has helped,' according to campaign creator Dave Healey.

"It really goes to show just how people can pull together in sad times," Dave added in an update on GoFundMe.

"I can only say a thank you but I think for Mylee's family this goes beyond that.

"Everyone here has helped relieve a little bit of stress off of there back and given them a little more space to grieve.

"I spoke to Mylee's mum today and she is very grateful and thankful to everyone who has helped. "

A post mortem examination took place on Monday and the results confirmed that Mylee died as a result of a single stab wound to the chest.
