The store on Halesowen Street was evacuated and the surrounding area sealed off by police after a loud bang was heard coming from the supermarket toilets at around midday.

A man suspected of being the knifeman was later arrested nearby after being spotted running from the store.

West Midlands Police said a fire had been started in the toilet area, but could not confirm what had caused the explosion.

The incident is not thought to be terror related and no members of the public were injured in the incident.
