Today the stabbing victim remains in a stable condition in hospital, while two shotgun casings were found at the scene of the shooting.

DCI Chris Hanson, from Force CID, said: "We believe both of these offences were linked and were the result of a dispute between two groups.

"The shooting happened following an argument between a group and a lone man with a gun. When officers arrived ten men were quickly detained – they remain in custody today.

"We now need any witnesses or anyone with information to come forward. This happened in broad daylight in a busy are of Wolverhampton and we know there would have been people around who saw what happened."

"I want to make it clear that this kind of violent behaviour is completely unacceptable and we are working round the clock to bring those responsible to justice.

"Gun crime will not be tolerated in the West Midlands and anyone found to be carrying a firearm can expect to spend at least five years behind bars."

Superintendent Keith Fraser, from the Wolverhampton Local Policing Unit, added: "These kinds of offences are rare in Wolverhampton and we are working with the local community to understand what happened, catch those involved and prevent further offences in the future.

"We will have additional officers and staff in the area for reassurance in the coming days."
