A terrifying kidnapping in which six men armed with machetes attacked a car and bundled its driver into the boot of another vehicle will feature in a Channel 5 documentary tonight.

The latest episode of Major Crime Unit, airing at 9pm tonight (Monday, October 19), will follow West Midlands Police detectives as they investigate the violent attack in Alum Rock, Birmingham.

The incident saw a red Mercedes boxed in by two cars on a residential street before six men armed with machetes surrounded the vehicle.

Two passengers managed to escape, suffering slash wounds in the process, but the driver was dragged from the car, beaten and forced into the boot of a black Volkswagen Passat.

With the two injured men revealing little about what happened, detectives from the force's Major Crime Team 1, led by Detective Inspector Francis Nock, were tasked with piecing together the attack using the evidence left behind.

The fourth episode of the Channel 5 series will show how officers worked to reconstruct the events surrounding the kidnapping and ransom case.

Produced by Raw Cut Television in partnership with West Midlands Police, Major Crime Unit follows detectives investigating some of the region's most serious offences, including firearms incidents, drug-related crime and attempted murder.

Based at Perry Barr in Birmingham, the force's Major Crime Unit brings together specialist officers and resources from across West Midlands Police.

These include homicide detectives, forensic specialists, the County Lines Taskforce and the Economic Crime Unit, who work together to tackle serious and organised crime.

The force says the unit's efforts have helped Birmingham shed its former reputation as the gun crime capital of England and Wales.

The latest episode of Major Crime Unit airs on Channel 5 at 9pm tonight.
