Cannock Chase Council 2026 election candidates revealed
More than 50 candidates have thrown their hats into the ring ahead of next month’s Cannock Chase Council elections.
In total 13 out of 36 seats will be up for grabs on May 7 as the authority is one of two in Staffordshire to hold its elections by thirds, meaning polls take place three out of every four years.
One candidate will be selected for each of the district’s 12 wards, apart from Hednesford Pye Green where two seats will be contested. There is a further vacancy in Hednesford Hills and Rawnsley too, which will also be determined on May 7
The statement of persons nominated was published by Cannock Chase Council on Friday (April 10) and there are 54 candidates taking part in the district council election. The candidates include current and former council members from a number of parties.
The Conservative Party, Green Party, Labour Party and Reform UK have fielded candidates in all 12 wards. There are also two independent candidates, as well as a Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition candidate.
Residents eligible to vote have until Monday, April 20, to ensure they are registered. The deadline for new postal vote applications and changes to existing postal and proxy votes is 5pm on Tuesday, April 21, while those needing to apply for a new proxy vote or voter authority certificate have until 5pm on Tuesday, April 28, to do so.
Polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm on Thursday, May 7. For more information on the elections in Cannock Chase visit www.cannockchasedc.gov.uk/council/elections-voting
